Shaparak Khorsandi

Shaparak Khorsandi formerly known as Shappi Khorsandi, is an Iranian-born British comedian and author. The daughter of Iranian political satirist and poet Hadi Khorsandi, she and her family relocated to the UK following the 1979 revolution. Khorsandi often incorporates her Iranian heritage and the reactions it prompts into her stand-up comedy.

She gained national recognition after her 2006 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show Asylum Speaker and her appearance at the Secret Policeman's Ball in 2008. Khorsandi has appeared on numerous British TV and radio programs, including Shappi Talk on BBC Radio 4 and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2017.

Khorsandi has also written several books, including her 2009 memoir A Beginner's Guide to Acting English, her 2016 novel Nina is Not OK, and Kissing Emma, a young adult fiction novel published in 2021. Her autobiographical work, Scatter Brain, was released in 2023.
